Drone Pilot Training with USI

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE. This hybrid 8-week, 80-hour course provides remote pilots with the essential aeronautical knowledge required to operate small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as drones, within Visual Line-of-Sight (VLOS). The curriculum covers key topics such as regulations, meteorology, National Airspace operations, and Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM). Building on this foundation, the course develops critical planning skills, including site surveying, preflight risk assessments, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and standardized flight procedures. The in-person portion focuses on developing the psychomotor skills necessary for safe UAS operation, emphasizing mission preparation, aerial image acquisition, and post-flight documentation. By integrating technical knowledge with hands-on training, this course ensures that students acquire the skills, professionalism, and regulatory awareness needed to plan and execute UAS operations safely and effectively. Students will pay $175.00 to take the FAA FAR Part 107 test in either the Myrtle Beach area or the Georgetown area at PSI Examination Services/ Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics. Class will meet online for 7 weeks from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on weeks 1-5 & 7-8. The sixth week will be on campus for the in-person flight training Monday - Friday from 8:00 am- 4:00 pm and students must pass the FAA written exam PRIOR to attending the in-person portion. 8.000 Continuing Education Units
