HGTC is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Inceptia beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year.  Inceptia is a nonprofit organization that will help our students and their families through the financial aid verification process utilizing the Verification Gateway (VG), an online portal.  Our partnership is designed to expedite the financial aid verification process and make it easier for our students and their families.

Because HGTC is partnering with Inceptia to assist our students through the verification process, if you are selected for verification, you can expect to receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org or a postcard from Inceptia, containing the College’s unique website link to start the verification process.  You will be asked to create an account and go through the Verification Gateway.  It is important to act quickly and provide Inceptia with all the items requested to complete verification.  Until verification is complete, HGTC cannot finalize your aid package.  

We strongly encourage students who are selected for verification to begin the process within 7 days of receiving notification from VG to ensure you receive your financial aid as soon as possible.  Failure to complete the verification process could result in the delay or denial of your financial aid.

Verification is the process used to confirm the data reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is accurate before your financial aid can be awarded.  If you are selected for verification, it does not mean you have done anything wrong, or mistakes were made.  The Department of Education roughly selects one-third of students across the nation for verification.  Reasons why a student was selected include:

  • Randomly selected.
  • The FAFSA was submitted with incomplete information.
  • The data on the FAFSA appears to contradict itself.
  • Estimated information was provided on the FAFSA.

The verification process helps HGTC to ensure that all FAFSA information is accurate and that you receive the correct amount of financial aid.  

The verification process is simple and easy to complete.  If you are selected for verification you will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org with the HGTC link to Verification Gateway https://hgtc.verificationgateway.org/#/login. Upon receiving the email, you will need to follow these steps to complete verification:

  1. Access HGTC’s unique website, https://hgtc.verificationgateway.org/#/login.
  2. Create your account* by answering a few questions and choosing your preferences.
  3. Complete the items on your Task List with the requested documentation.
  4. Confirm your signature and review your information.
  5. Sign your account electronically.

*If you are a dependent student, your parent also needs to create their own account and complete each of these steps.

After you sign your account, the process takes approximately seven business day to review and process.  Sometimes additional information is required, or corrections need to be made to a FAFSA, and it might take a little longer than seven business days.  You can always check that status of your verification by logging into Verification Gateway.

If you are a dependent student, your parent will need to create a separate account and follow these steps :

  1. Access HGTC’s unique website link in the email from (insert link).
  2. Create an account by answering a few questions and choosing their preferences for notifications.
  3. Complete the items on the TaskList with the requested documentation.
  4. Confirm your signature and review your information.
  5. Sign your account electronically.
Upon completion of verification, HGTC will determine your financial aid eligibility and award your financial aid.  Once your financial aid has been packaged, you will receive an award letter detailing your financial aid awards.  You may also view your awards on your MyHGTC student portal by locating the "My Financial Aid” card with the piggy bank and clicking “Financial Aid Awards.”
