SC State Constables Basic Training Course
A state constable’s job is to support S.C. law enforcement in times of emergency and/or
crisis. Program training includes firearms, laws of arrest, search and seizures, evidence,
crisis intervention, human/community relations, and SLED policies and procedures affecting
constables.
The program and constable exam are administered by a Criminal Academy Certified Law
Enforcement Instructor.
A constable candidate must be a U.S. citizen and apply to SLED (background search
performed) for approval.
If approved, the candidate must successfully complete a Basic State Constable training
program and qualify with firearms. 72 hours classroom plus 24 hours Firearms training
Prerequisites:
Must have authorization letter from SLED Regulatory Services to register.
Participants need to provide their own handgun in one of the following calibers: 9mm,
.40, .357 semiautomatic, or .45.
Holster and 500 rounds of ammunition prior to firearms training.
