Private residence and local businesses need the services of skilled technicians trained in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems. The Residential HVAC Service Technician certificate at HGTC prepares graduates for employment as an installation specialist, service technician, service manager, or sales representative in the residential and/or light commercial heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration service industry. The essentials of the mechanical and electrical systems of contemporary air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems are addressed throughout the program through extensive course work and hands-on lab experience. This program is approved by the local HVAC industry through a program advisory committee.
Students must start the Residential HVAC program during the Fall Semester.
Once enrolled in the program, students must receive a minimum grade of "C" or better
on all required courses.
Students will be required to purchase the HVAC program tool kit to complete their
lab assignments and prepare them for work. The tool kit list, with purchasing options,
will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
To complete the ACR 210 Heat Pump class, which is required to graduate, a student
must pass the EPA 608 Core and Type II exam. Additionally, all students are required
to take the NATE HVAC Support Technician exam.
To receive the Residential HVAC certificate, students must have a 2.0 or better combined GPA in all ACR-prefixed courses.
