HGTC Welding Students Successful in State Skills Competition
Ethan Johnson wins first place in Category 4
(CONWAY) – Ethan Johnson of Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) won first place in Category 4 at the 37thAnnual South Carolina Technical College Welding Competition held April 18 and 19, 2019, at HGTC. Johnson was one of nine students in his category, and one of 50 students from 10 technical colleges from across South Carolina to compete.
Three other HGTC students also competed: Brian Pugliese finished fifth place in Category 2, Cameron Thompson finished sixth place in Category 3, and Alex Dawson finished ninth place in Category 5. All four competitors will graduate with an Advanced Welding Technologies Certificate at the end of the summer.
“I’m very proud of all of our student competitors and the hard work they dedicated to this competition, as well as the technical skills and sportsmanship they demonstrated,” said HGTC welding department chair Jeff Ball. “HGTC was honored to host so many talented competitors from across the state.”
