HGTC Foundation Receives Support from the RC Altman Family
Mr. Ron Altman
(CONWAY, SC) – The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation was recently presented with an annual scholarship fund to help deserving students in the Construction Management Program reach educational goals through tuition support.
Mrs. Faye Altman along with her daughter, Hayley, and her son, Brian, established a scholarship to honor the memory of their husband and father, Ron Altman, who passed away in June 2020.
"It is our hope that this scholarship will enable a deserving student to pursue their educational goals while commemorating the gentle soul and giving spirit of Ronnie," explained Mrs. Faye Altman.
The scholarship will be given to a full-time student in Construction Management who is in need of financial help. To be eligible the student must be a resident of Horry, Georgetown, or Williamsburg county and have a GPA of 2.75 and be enrolled in the Construction Management Program. The scholarship will be given to the same student each semester throughout the program as long as that student maintains the minimum GPA requirement and attendance. The student’s professor will give a status report of the student’s progress to the donor each semester.
“The HGTC Foundation is very pleased with this heartfelt memorial gift given by Mrs. Faye Altman and her family,” said Mr. Neyle Wilson, HGTC Foundation President and CEO. “Through the generosity of community members like Faye, students are able to reach their educational goals and achieve a better life for themselves and their families.”
“HGTC appreciates the support of the Altman Family and those who are willing to use the tragic loss of a dear family member to help a student in need,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “So many of our students are looking for scholarships like this one in order to have the chance to improve their lives with a new career and a better tomorrow.”
“This scholarship is to continue Ron’s hope of helping anyone interested in the construction industry that may not have the opportunity otherwise,” added Mrs. Altman.
The purpose of the HGTC Foundation is to raise funds to support the programs, services and activities of HGTC, its students and employees, and to create and cultivate positive relationships between the College and the community.
The HGTC Foundation invites the community to become involved as the College continues to foster its reputation as a high quality learning and teaching institution with a student-centered environment. The community can enhance this vision with financial support for scholarships, programs, facilities or other needs; donation of equipment or technology; mentoring students; providing internships; and service on various academic or foundation advisory boards.
