New Scholarship Available for HGTC Electrical Lineman Technician Program
(CONWAY, SC) July 12, 2018 - The journey to become an electrical lineworker just became a little easier with the creation of the new Santee Electric Cooperative Lineworker Diversity Scholarship.
Made possible by a generous donation and ongoing commitment by the Santee Electric Cooperative to the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Foundation, the new scholarship strives to fulfill three purposes: to improve the quality of life in the service territory of Santee Electric cooperative; to encourage and support the next generation of lineworkers; and to promote diversity in lineworkers.
Eligible recipients must be residents of Georgetown, Florence, Williamsburg, or Clarendon counties and must be enrolled in the electrical lineman technician program at HGTC. Priority will be given to minority applicants that meet the criteria. The scholarship will cover tuition for one student per semester, three students per year, for 10 years.
The electrical lineman technician program at HGTC is a one-semester certificate program that prepares graduates to enter the electric utility industry as an apprentice with a broad understanding of the skills, knowledge, safe work practices and physical ability required to perform line work. Students must be 18 years of age and hold a valid driver’s license to enroll in the program.
To apply for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in the program, complete a Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), and complete a scholarship application.
