(CONWAY, SC) – The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation is pleased to announce that Mr. Ron Capps of the Ocean Isle Beach community has pledged $25,000 for an endowment fund in memory of his mother, Margaret Stone Capps, who passed away in 2002. Mr. Capps presented the Foundation with a check and hopes the fund will help HGTC students who are in need.
“I realize that some students can’t concentrate on their academics if they are more concerned about financial issues. Therefore, I want the funds to be used where the greatest need is for them,” said Ron Capps, President of JJMES of NC, LLC. “I have chosen HGTC as the benefactor in memory of my mother, Margaret Stone Capps, who passed away when she was 92 years old. She would want me to do something that helps others and gives young people a mechanism for assistance.”
“HGTC is so pleased with this heartfelt memorial gift given by Mr. Capps to the Foundation,” said Dr. Marilyn M. Fore, HGTC President. “It is hard to understand the fact that so many of our students simply cannot afford to go to college. Through the generosity of community members like Mr. Capps who are researching HGTC and discovering there is a need, affordability is being addressed one scholarship at a time.”
A candidate for the scholarship award must be enrolled in either the Nursing or Business Program and in need of financial assistance. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, supplies, or other educational expenses. Students must complete a FAFSA form to be eligible for any scholarship.
Students must submit applications to the HGTC Financial Aid Office and selection of the awardees will be made by the College Scholarship Committee. The HGTC Financial Aid Office will ensure the awardees receive the proper credit through the College Business Office.
Scholarships will be awarded for the spring semester 2020.
