Tom Arnold
Thursday, January 25, 2024, 7 pm - 9 pm
Actor and comedian Tom Arnold has had a well-publicized journey with addiction and
child sexual abuse. Arnold’s drinking and substance use began years before he left
the Midwest, where he was born and raised and where his sister became one of the most
prominent drug dealers. Tom honestly shares the ups and downs of his recovery with
us.
Arnold says rehabilitation is an ongoing process. He has been attending 12-step meetings for 35 years and is sober. “It is something I work on every day,” he said.

This lecture serves as a primer on current addiction neuroscience with information
that validates the lived experiences of people with addiction. Criticisms of the brain
are addressed in that it does not adequately address the social and ecological factors
that are crucial to any complete understanding of addiction and recovery.

Students in recovery from different addictions and using different recovery methods
describe what it was like, what happened, and what they do on a daily basis to maintain
their recovery.
