Career Outlook

The Electrical Lineman Technician Program prepares the student to enter the electric or telecommunications industry as an apprentice with a broad understanding of the skills, knowledge, safe work practices and physical ability required to perform line work (3rd class). Students receive classroom and field training in math, electrical circuit analysis, power systems, and transformer theory, as well as safety and climbing techniques.

Mission/Purpose Statement:

Linemen are the backbone of America’s infrastructure. The mission of the Electrical Lineman program is to offer a strong academic and applications-based program necessary to produce well-educated graduates who become innovative and productive members of society. Students will possess both the problem-solving skills and the fundamental soft skills needed in the modern workplace. Students will be prepared to perform highly skilled, entry-level transmission, distribution, and electrical work in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electric transmission, distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment.  Additionally, students will be prepared to accept and succeed in entry level positions in the fields of electrical utility and telecommunications.

Goals:

• Become engaged and competent Electrical Lineman by applying technical skills needed to install, maintain, and repair electric power lines and other equipment associated with electrical distribution, transmission, and telecommunications systems.
  
  
• Cultivate students’ communication skills in oral, written, visual and graphic modes when working as team members or leaders, so they can actively participate in their communities and their profession. 
  
  
• Established an understanding of professionalism, ethics, quality performance, public relations, safety, and sustainability that allows them to be professional leaders and contributors to society while solving task related to electrical and telecommunication l challenges.
