Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) recently welcomed high school students from across the region to its Conway Campus for the highly anticipated Engineering Showcase event. This hands-on experience provided students with an in-depth look at HGTC’s cutting-edge Engineering programs and the numerous career pathways available in the field.

Students had the opportunity to explore a variety of engineering disciplines, including Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Lineworker, Robotics, and Surveying. The showcase featured interactive demonstrations, allowing students to gain firsthand experience with industry-standard technology and engineering applications.

“This event is designed to give students a glimpse into the world of engineering and the exciting career opportunities available,” said Morgan Dendy, HGTC Director of Strategic Recruiting & Outreach. “By engaging in hands-on demonstrations and interacting with our expert faculty, students can see how these fields impact the world around them and envision their own futures in engineering.”

Key highlights from the event included:

  • Civil 3D Highway Design Project – Showcasing advanced design technology used in civil engineering.
  • Soils Sieve Analysis Demonstration – Exploring geotechnical testing techniques.
  • Robotics Demonstration – Featuring automation and robotic applications.
  • PLC Demonstration – Introducing programmable logic controllers used in industrial automation.
  • Electronic Circuits – Allowing students to build and test electrical circuits.
  • Pole Climbing Exhibition – Demonstrating the skills required for electrical lineworkers.

Throughout the event, HGTC Engineering faculty members provided guided tours of classrooms and state-of-the-art labs, discussed career opportunities, and answered student questions about the engineering industry. The showcase highlighted the value of HGTC’s programs, which offer both direct-entry workforce opportunities and seamless transfer options to four-year institutions.

HGTC was honored to host students from the following participating schools:

  • Academy for Technology & Academics (ATA)
  • Coastal High School
  • Conway High School
  • North Myrtle Beach High School
  • PALM Charter High School
  • Waccamaw High School

HGTC remains committed to preparing students for successful careers by providing hands-on education, industry-aligned training, and strong employer connections. The College thanks all participating students, faculty, and industry partners for making the Engineering Showcase a resounding success.
