Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) proudly welcomed Jee Hang Lee, President and CEO of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), to its Conway Campus on Tuesday as part of his national tour of technical colleges.
HGTC President Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore hosted the visit, which included meetings with several college leaders and a tour of key instructional areas, including the Outboard Marine Technology lab, Cybersecurity range, and other innovative learning environments on campus. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase HGTC’s commitment to workforce development and technical education excellence.
“It is an honor to have ACCT President & CEO Jee Hang Lee visit HGTC,” said Dr. Fore. “The work that ACCT does on behalf of community and technical colleges nationwide is invaluable. Their advocacy and leadership ensure that institutions like HGTC continue to provide high-quality education and workforce training opportunities for students.”
ACCT is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to supporting and representing governing boards of community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. Representing more than 6,500 trustees serving on over 500 governing boards, ACCT plays a vital role in shaping policies and initiatives that impact over 1,000 colleges and more than 10 million students annually.
During his visit, Lee had the opportunity to engage with HGTC faculty and staff, discussing the College’s contributions to student success and workforce development. He also enjoyed a lunch prepared by students from the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach, further highlighting HGTC’s hands-on approach to education.
"I am thrilled and grateful to have the opportunity to visit many different community and technical colleges throughout the country," said Lee. "HGTC stands out for many of its innovative programs such as the outboard marine and cybersecurity programs that serve both its students and its community's needs. Thank you to Dr. Fore and the HGTC staff and faculty for taking the time to show me what the college is doing to serve its community. This is the type of experience that makes me so proud to represent community college leadership nationwide—the important, often groundbreaking work that is being done locally."
HGTC continues to be a leader in technical and workforce education, and this visit underscores the importance of collaboration between local institutions and national organizations like ACCT to advance the mission of community and technical colleges.
