Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) recently hosted the Job Coach/Career Counselor Appreciation Luncheon at the renowned International Culinary Institute on the Grand Strand Campus. Over 20 job coaches and career counselors from Horry and Georgetown counties attended the event to learn more about valuable partnerships, student connections, and exposure to HGTC’s diverse programs.
The luncheon served as an opportunity for HGTC to express its deep appreciation for the vital role these professionals play in shaping the future workforce of South Carolina. Job coaches and career counselors work directly with high school students to guide them through career exploration, apprenticeships, employment, and training opportunities. These individuals regularly coordinate student tours of HGTC campuses and programs, organize career events at their schools, and invite business and college representatives to present to students.
“Job coaches and career counselors are essential in helping students explore career pathways and discover training opportunities that align with their goals,” said Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore, President of HGTC. “Our partnership with local high schools is critical in ensuring that students have the guidance and resources they need to pursue successful careers. We are grateful for their dedication and for the opportunity to collaborate in shaping the future workforce of our state.”
Attendees at the event included job coaches and career counselors from high schools in Horry and Georgetown counties, representatives from the Horry and Georgetown County School Districts, and key workforce partners such as Apprenticeship Carolina, Partnership Grand Strand, and the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce. HGTC’s leadership, including Assistant Vice Presidents, Deans, and staff, were also in attendance to engage with these valued partners.
