Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is celebrating the outstanding performance of its culinary students at the American Culinary Federation (ACF) competition, held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The competition was part of the 42nd Annual Hotel, Motel & Restaurant Supply Show of the Southeast.

HGTC is incredibly proud of its students who competed in the ACF Student SK categories and those who apprenticed for professional chefs competing in various categories. Representing the HGTC International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach (ICI), students Thane Buckley-Camacho, Madelyn Chance, Daniel Caunter, Oliver Ford, Rachel Martin, and Tran Miles demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication in the high-stakes competition. Their hard work and passion for the culinary arts were evident as they showcased their talents in front of industry professionals and esteemed judges.

Competitions play a vital role in culinary arts as they continually raise the standards of culinary excellence. There is no better way for a culinarian to hone their craft than by putting their skills and knowledge to the test in a competitive format.

“We could not be prouder of our students for their performance at this prestigious event,” said Joseph Bonaparte, Executive Director of the HGTC International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach. “Their commitment to excellence and ability to thrive in a competitive environment reflect the high standards of our program and the bright future they have in the culinary industry.”

The ACF, founded in 1929, is a premier professional organization for chefs and cooks. It offers career recognition, accreditation for culinary education, and representation in international competitions. Additionally, the ACF keeps chefs informed about culinary trends, supports a national apprenticeship program, and sanctions the U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team (USACAT).

HGTC extends its sincere appreciation to the judges for their time and effort in evaluating the competitors and for their dedication to fostering the next generation of culinary professionals. The College remains committed to providing exceptional culinary education and looks forward to future successes in competitions that highlight the immense talent within its program.
