Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is thrilled to welcome Certified Master Chef (CMC) Daryl L. Shular to the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach for a four-day immersive culinary experience, culminating in an exclusive dining event on Thursday, April 3.

A true trailblazer in the culinary industry, Chef Shular made history in 2014 by becoming the first African-American and minority chef to earn the prestigious Certified Master Chef (CMC) designation—an honor achieved through one of the most rigorous culinary exams in the world. The CMC title is currently held by only 72 chefs in the United States. Throughout his career, Chef Shular has remained dedicated to mentoring the next generation of chefs and inspiring culinary excellence.

During his visit, Chef Shular will engage with HGTC culinary students, faculty, alumni, and community members through a series of lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on kitchen experiences. Students will have the rare opportunity to learn directly from a master, refine their skills, and contribute to a collaborative menu under Chef Shular’s expert guidance.

“Chef Shular’s visit is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to gain firsthand knowledge from one of the most accomplished chefs in the world,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “His dedication to mentorship and culinary innovation aligns perfectly with HGTC’s mission to provide exceptional educational experiences that prepare students for success.”

As part of his itinerary, Chef Shular will participate in a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 1, sharing insights from his journey from a culinary student to a Certified Master Chef. On Thursday, April 3, he will oversee a final menu preparation and service in the Fowler Dining Room, where guests will experience a unique culinary showcase led by students under his direction.

“We are honored to welcome Chef Shular to the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach,” said Chef Joseph Bonaparte, Executive Director of the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach. “His expertise, passion, and commitment to shaping the future of the culinary industry make him an inspiration to our students and faculty alike. We look forward to an unforgettable week of learning and culinary excellence.”
