The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) welding program has once again proven its excellence on the statewide stage. Six (6) HGTC welding students showcased their skills and expertise at the 40th annual South Carolina Technical College Welding Competition, held at Midlands Technical College.
Competing against representatives from seven (7) technical colleges and 37 student competitors, HGTC emerged as a powerhouse, securing top positions, and demonstrating unparalleled professionalism.

Their success not only highlights their individual talents but also underscores the quality of education and support provided by our dedicated faculty and staff. This achievement reaffirms HGTC's commitment to excellence and hands-on learning experiences that prepare our students for success in their future careers. Among the standout performances were:
Terrance Humphrey – Secured 2nd place in Category 1, showcasing proficiency in Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Carbon Steel & Aluminum Tee joint, and Vee Groove Plate.
Richard Alarcon – Claimed 1st place in Category 3, demonstrating excellence in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Carbon Steel Vee Groove Plate.
Bryce Whitworth – Achieved 3rd place in Category 4, exhibiting skill in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Carbon Steel 6-G Pipe.
Jose Cruz Prieto – Earned 1st place in Category 5, showcasing mastery in Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Carbon Steel 6-G Pipe.
Chaz Binkley – Secured 2nd place in Category 6, displaying expertise in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding 6-G Pipe Stainless Steel.
Despite the intense competition, HGTC dominated with the best overall score, placing 1st to 3rd in five (5) out of six (6) categories.
