HGTC Welcomes MB High School Seniors for Campus Experience

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) welcomed over 140 Myrtle Beach High School seniors to its Conway Campus for an exploration of technical education and career possibilities. Students participated in an informative tour, meeting HGTC faculty and staff, and learning about the College’s dynamic program offerings before continuing their journey to the nearby Coastal Carolina University (CCU) campus.

The students’ morning at HGTC introduced them to several exciting program areas that provide hands-on training for high-demand careers, including Cosmetology, Teacher Education, Outboard Marine Technology, HVAC, Automotive Technology, Golf & Sports Turf Management, and Electrical Lineworker. Students also learned about additional program opportunities available at HGTC, such as Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Computer Technology, Health Science, Culinary Arts, Forestry, and Boat Building.

HGTC faculty shared the pathways and career advantages these programs offer, emphasizing how HGTC’s educational resources align with the needs of the region’s workforce.

Following their morning on HGTC’s campus, the students traveled to CCU for an overview and campus tour, experiencing firsthand the opportunity to start their educational journey with HGTC and continue their studies at CCU. Students enjoyed lunch in the university’s Hicks Dining Hall before returning to Myrtle Beach High School.

Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President, highlighted the value of the event, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Myrtle Beach High School students to experience HGTC’s facilities and educational programs. By showing them a glimpse of the opportunities available locally, we hope to inspire these young people to envision successful futures right here in Horry County, with HGTC as their first step toward a rewarding career or continued education.”

The tour, hosted in collaboration with the CCU Chanticleers, highlights the strong partnership between HGTC and CCU, creating seamless pathways for students.
