Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is thrilled to announce three outstanding students have been awarded scholarships by the Waccamaw Community Foundation.  The scholarships were presented in a ceremony at the Franklin Burroughs Simeon Chapin Art Museum last month.

Sundy Barth, a talented student in the HGTC Culinary Arts program, was the recipient of the Charles W. Snoddy Hospitality Scholarship. Barth’s commitment to culinary innovation and hospitality is a shining example of the excellence encouraged at HGTC.

Yasmeen Reaves, in the HGTC Nursing program, was awarded the Mildred E. Swatco Memorial Scholarship. Reaves has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and a compassionate approach to patient care, embodying the values of the HGTC School of Nursing.

Mark Carom, enrolled in our Golf and Sports Turf Management program, also received the Mildred E. Swatco Memorial Scholarship. Carom’s dedication to advancing the science of turf management aligns with HGTC’s mission to support industries critical to the region.

“We are immensely proud of Sundy, Yasmeen, and Mark for their remarkable achievements. These scholarships from the Waccamaw Community Foundation not only recognize their hard work and talent but also reflect the collaborative spirit that drives our community forward. At HGTC, we are dedicated to nurturing the potential of every student, and this generous support enables us to continue our mission of transforming lives through education,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President.

“The Waccamaw Community Foundation is honored to support the aspirations of these bright students from Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Our mission is to foster a culture of giving that addresses the needs and enriches the lives within our community. These scholarships are a reflection of our commitment to education and the belief that investing in our youth is the key to a thriving future,” said Jean Ann Brakefield, Program Director for the Waccamaw Community Foundation.

The students were selected based on nominations from HGTC faculty, recognizing their academic excellence and community involvement. The application process through the Waccamaw Community Foundation was rigorous, highlighting the remarkable achievements of Barth, Reaves, and Carom.

“At HGTC, we pride ourselves on the success of our students, and these scholarships reflect the strong partnership we have with the Waccamaw Community Foundation. Together, we are committed to providing opportunities that enhance the educational journey of our students and prepare them for impactful careers,” continued Dr. Fore.
