HGTC is set to break ground in 2025 on the new Marine Technology Center located on the Georgetown Campus.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a significant grant of $200,000 by the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC). This grant, a part of the Fiscal Year 2023 State Economic and Infrastructure Development (SEID) awards, is designated for acquiring advanced equipment for the forthcoming HGTC Marine Technology Center, located on the Georgetown Campus.
The Marine Technology Center, slated to commence construction in 2025, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility. It will specialize in the education of students in outboard marine technology and boat building technology disciplines. The investment in top-tier equipment, made possible by the SCRC grant, is set to be a cornerstone in nurturing the marine technology leaders of tomorrow.
Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, President of HGTC, expressed profound gratitude: “The SCRC’s endorsement of our vision to be at the forefront of marine technology education is deeply appreciated. This initiative promises to create enduring benefits for our students and the wider community.”
HGTC conveys its sincere appreciation to Dr. Jennifer Clyburn Reed, Federal Co-Chair of the SCRC, the honorable State Co-Chair, and all SCRC members. The college reaffirms its dedication to meeting the SCRC’s stipulations and keenly awaits the Notice to Proceed (NTP) or Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP), signaling the start of this transformative project.
