HGTC International Culinary Institute to Host ProStart Leadership Training and Teacher Recognition Dinner, September 6 & 7

Students and teachers arrive at the HGTC International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach for the opening reception hosted by HGTC for the South Carolina ProStart Competition Spring 2023.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach will host the ProStart Leadership Training on September 6 and 7, 2024, at the Grand Strand Campus. This event is organized in partnership with the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (SCRLA) and will include participation from both South Carolina and North Carolina ProStart instructors.

The two-day event will feature a series of skills workshops, industry presentations, and networking opportunities aimed at enhancing the culinary and management skills of ProStart educators. The event will also include a Teacher Recognition Dinner on the evening of September 6, honoring the dedication and contributions of culinary instructors. This dinner is expected to be attended by approximately 50 instructors.

Event Highlights:

  • Skills Workshops: Hands-on sessions led by renowned chefs, including:
    • Chef Middleton: Understanding How We Taste to Create Memorable Plated Desserts
    • Chef Lui: Wok Techniques & Stir Frying
    • Chef Tany: Understanding and Making Perfect Risotto
    • Chef Schuster: Contemporary Plant Forward Cooking
  • Industry Presentations: Insights from industry leaders such as Martin Cauz from Divine Dining Group and Chef Brian Hay, Culinary School Specialist at Zwilling School Knife Program.
  • Teacher Recognition Dinner: A special dinner to honor culinary instructors, fostering a sense of community and appreciation among educators.

Dr. Marilyn Fore, President of HGTC, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are thrilled to host the ProStart Leadership Training at our International Culinary Institute.
