The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach recently concluded an extraordinary educational experience for its culinary students and instructors with a study abroad trip to Vienna, Austria, from December 7-15, 2024. This journey provided students with hands-on culinary workshops, exclusive tours, and the opportunity to explore Austria’s renowned culinary and cultural heritage.
Throughout their time in Vienna, HGTC culinary students engaged in an enriching itinerary that blended the art of culinary craftsmanship with the historical and cultural richness of Austria. The group participated in advanced culinary workshops, visited renowned culinary institutions, and dined at award-winning restaurants that emphasized sustainability and seasonal ingredients.
The trip also included opportunities to explore iconic landmarks, local markets, and Austria’s famous Christmas traditions, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of Viennese culture. A day trip to Salzburg added another layer of cultural and culinary immersion, as students experienced the iconic settings of "The Sound of Music" and sampled authentic Austrian cuisine.
“The study abroad program exemplifies our commitment to providing students with unparalleled opportunities to expand their skills and cultural awareness,” said Joseph Bonaparte, HGTC Executive Director for the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach. “This trip to Vienna offered an invaluable experience to learn from world-class chefs, explore historic culinary traditions, and deepen their appreciation for sustainability and innovation in the kitchen.”
The International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach on the HGTC Grand Strand Campus in Market Common continues to inspire future culinary leaders by combining hands-on training with global experiences. This trip reinforced HGTC’s dedication to excellence in culinary arts education and prepared students to excel in a competitive industry.
