The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation is proud to announce that Anderson Brothers Bank has pledged a $10,000 matching grant on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024. This generous commitment amplifies the Foundation's efforts to support students and communities affected by the International Paper plant closure through the innovative IP Opportunity Scholarship initiative.

This matching grant aligns with the HGTC Foundation’s partnership with the Rebecca C. Parsons Foundation, which has issued a $100,000 Challenge Grant to galvanize additional contributions from area businesses. Together, these funds aim to build a robust scholarship program providing displaced workers in Horry and Georgetown counties with vital financial resources to access HGTC’s Workforce Development and Advanced Manufacturing programs.

“Through Anderson Brothers Bank’s generous contribution, we are doubling the impact of Giving Tuesday donations,” said Shannon Detzler, President & CEO of the HGTC Foundation. “Their support reflects our shared commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening our community. Together, we are creating life-changing opportunities for those impacted by the International Paper plant closure.”

The IP Opportunity Scholarship offers displaced workers up to $5,000 per semester to help cover essential living expenses such as rent, utilities, and transportation. By addressing these financial barriers, the scholarship allows recipients to focus on their education and career development, setting them on a path to success in the evolving job market.

This Giving Tuesday, the HGTC Foundation invites the community to join this transformative initiative. Contributions will be matched effectively doubling the impact of each donation. Donors can choose to designate their gifts to the IP Opportunity Scholarship or any other HGTC program that resonates with their values.
