HGTC Electrical Lineworker Program on the Conway Campus
The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation is proud to announce its Electrical Lineworker Technician program has received an in-kind donation of 20 wood utility poles from Santee Cooper, a trusted public power and water provider in South Carolina. The donation from Santee Cooper marks a significant enhancement to the program’s training facilities.
The poles will be installed at HGTC’s Lineworker Training Yard on the Conway Campus, further enabling the College to prepare students for successful careers in the utility industry. Professor Scott Shoemaker, who leads the Electrical Lineworker Technician program, will oversee the installation of the new poles.
"We are incredibly grateful to Santee Cooper for this generous donation, which will directly benefit our students by providing them with the resources they need to gain hands-on experience," said Dr. Marilyn Fore, President of HGTC. "Our Electrical Lineworker Technician program has a remarkable 100% job placement rate, and this contribution will help us continue to ensure our graduates are well-prepared for their careers."
The Electrical Lineworker Technician program at HGTC began in January 2015, following the construction of the lineworker yard, with the assistance of Santee Cooper, in November 2014. The program is a one-semester certificate degree that enrolls six (6) cohorts of 16 students per year. It is designed to prepare students both mentally and physically with the knowledge, skills, techniques, and professionalism necessary to enter the utility industry.
"The HGTC Foundation is thrilled to see this kind of support from our community partners," said Shannon Detzler, President & CEO of the HGTC Foundation. "This donation from Santee Cooper exemplifies the strong relationships we have cultivated, and it will have a lasting impact on the success of our students."
Santee Cooper has a long-standing commitment to supporting education and workforce development in South Carolina. "We are pleased to contribute to the HGTC Electrical Lineworker Technician program, knowing that these poles will play a crucial role in training the next generation of lineworkers," said Vicky Budreau, Chief Customer Officer for Santee Cooper. "As a public power provider, we understand the importance of having well-trained professionals in the utility industry and supporting our community partners, and we are proud to support HGTC in this endeavor."
The HGTC Foundation continues to raise funds to support the programs, services, and activities of the college, ensuring that students and faculty have the resources they need to succeed. This donation from Santee Cooper is a testament to the positive relationships between HGTC and the community, working together to build a brighter future for South Carolina.
