HGTC and CCU Present the 3rd Annual Light Up the Night 5K

Light Up the Night 5K 2024 

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and Coastal Carolina University (CCU) are excited to announce the return of the Light Up the Night 5K Run, Walk, Stroll, or Roll. Now in its third year, the event will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. on the CCU campus, and it promises to be an even more impactful experience.

After the success of last year’s race, which raised over $6,000 for the cause, this year’s event continues to spotlight Interpersonal Violence Awareness. Throughout October, which is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, HGTC and CCU are committed to elevating conversations about dating and relationship violence, and ensuring survivors receive the support and resources they need.

Proceeds from the race will go directly to the CCU and HGTC Victim Assistance Fund, providing essential aid to student survivors of violence. Organizers are aiming to exceed last year’s fundraising total as participation grows within the campuses and local communities.

Beverly Wilhelm, Victim Services Coordinator at CCU and event co-organizer, shared, “In 2023, we tragically lost 30 lives to domestic violence in South Carolina. This year, we honor those individuals, as well as others whose lives were cut short. We will have 30 pairs of shoes in an empty chair display at the finish line, symbolizing those we have lost and serving as a reminder that we must continue to raise awareness and fight for change.”

  • An inspiring awards ceremony at Brooks Stadium immediately following the race.
  • Raffle baskets available, with all proceeds supporting the cause. (Please bring cash!)

  • Open to: All ages and abilities

Race Course Overview:
Participants will start on University Boulevard, loop around HGTC’s campus, and finish on the iconic teal turf at Brooks Stadium, CCU. This accessible route allows everyone to join in, whether you're running, walking, strolling, or rolling.

Packet Pickup:

  • Thursday, October 24: HGTC Parking Lot from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, October 25: CCU at Brooks Stadium starting at 6:00 p.m. (Race begins at 7:30 p.m.)

Registration Fees:

  • General Public: $40
  • CCU/HGTC Faculty & Staff: $35
  • CCU/HGTC Students: $20
  • Group rates are available for teams of 10. To form a team, contact Beverly Wilhelm at bwilhelm@coastal.edu.
