Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce the outstanding members of Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter have once again made waves on the international stage, showcasing their dedication, leadership, and excellence at the annual Phi Theta Kappa Convention held April 4-6 in Orlando, FL.
"We are immensely proud of the extraordinary achievements of our Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter members at the Phi Theta Kappa Convention. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence embody the values we hold dear at HGTC,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “This remarkable recognition on the international stage underscores the caliber of our students and the unwavering support of our faculty and staff. Congratulations to all involved for this outstanding accomplishment, which reflects the spirit of excellence that defines our institution."
Among the highlights of achievements, the HGTC Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter received the following accolades garnered by exceptional individuals and projects:
Distinguished Chapter Officer: Linxi Sun, HGTC Student and Alpha Nu Sigma Officer, was recognized as one of the only 30 Distinguished Chapter Officers in the world, a testament to her exemplary leadership qualities and commitment to excellence.
Continued Excellence Advisor Award: Leila Rogers, HGTC Professor and Alpha Nu Sigma Advisor, joined an exclusive group of only 20 individuals worldwide to receive this honor, recognizing her sustained dedication and guidance to our chapter's success.
Distinguished Advisor Team Award: Beth Carraway, Paulette LaValley, and Leila Rogers, HGTC Professors and Alpha Nu Sigma Advisors, were honored as one of the only 20 distinguished advisor teams globally, underscoring their collective efforts in fostering our chapter's growth and impact.
Distinguished Honors in Action Theme Award: HGTC’s project on the "Economics of Play" at the South Strand Senior Center stood out among the competition, earning recognition as one of the top three projects in this theme.
Distinguished College Project: The Welcome Back Carnival initiative hosted by HGTC’s Alpha Nu Sigma’s Chapter was acknowledged as one of the 50 distinguished college projects worldwide, highlighting our chapter's commitment to community engagement and innovation.
Distinguished Honors in Action Project: HGTC’s impactful event at the South Strand Senior Center was celebrated as one of the 50 distinguished Honors in Action projects globally, showcasing our members' dedication to addressing real-world issues.
Distinguished Chapter: HGTC’s Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter ranked among the top 50 chapters in the world, a testament to members' collective efforts and commitment to Phi Theta Kappa's mission of academic excellence and service.
HGTC’s Alpha Nu Sigma was also awarded the prestigious title of 1st Runner Up to Most Distinguished Chapter!
Beth Carraway, HGTC’s Business Professor and Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter Advisor, expressing her gratitude, remarked, "We can't thank the College leadership enough for the continued support of our students, and we know we could not be successful without it. This achievement is particularly significant as it marks our second consecutive year of being in the top three in the world. Achieving this remarkable feat, securing the 2nd place out of over 1250 chapters worldwide, is a testament to HGTC’s unwavering dedication and sustained excellence.”
Carraway also highlighted the efforts of Chris Williams for creating a library guide tailored to our chapter's needs and Chris Wheeler for his invaluable review of our projects. Additionally, appreciation was extended to Dr. Melissa Batten and Professor Michael Williams for their contributions to advisor nominations.
“As we reflect on our accomplishments in 2023 and look ahead with anticipation to the opportunities of 2024, we extend our gratitude to all who have supported us on this remarkable journey. With new officers and members joining our ranks, we are excited to continue our legacy of excellence and service, guided by our unwavering commitment to Phi Theta Kappa's values,” continued Carraway.
