Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) proudly announces that Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, the esteemed President of the college, has been honored as "One of the Grand Strand's 50 Most Influential" by B2B: The Grand Strand magazine.
Integrated Media Publishing, Inc., publishers of Charleston Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly, Greenville Magazine, and formerly the Greater Pee Dee Business Journal, launched B2B: The Grand Strand magazine in January 2024. As part of the inaugural edition, Dr. Fore is profiled along with other Business Leaders recognized for their significant impact on their professions and valuable community contributions.
Dr. Fore, affectionately known as "Murph," has dedicated over 40 years to the field of higher education. Her illustrious journey began in Ohio and West Virginia, and she has been a prominent figure in South Carolina since the inception of her remarkable career.
Her extensive educational background, including an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from Coastal Carolina University, underscores her unwavering commitment to continuous learning and academic excellence. A distinguished alumna of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Dr. Fore holds an Education Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Arts in Economics, and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration. Her foundation in education began with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, West Virginia.
As the first female president of HGTC, Dr. Fore has shattered glass ceilings and exemplified extraordinary leadership. Her tenure at HGTC includes pivotal roles such as Professor of Economics, Academic Dean, and Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Throughout her renowned career, Dr. Fore has served as a beacon of inspiration for colleagues in higher education.

The January issue of B2B: The Grand Strand, Columbia Business Monthly, Greenville Business Magazine, and Charleston Business Magazine will feature profiles of the honorees, providing statewide recognition for their outstanding service.
In addition to her inclusion in the "50 Most Influential" list, Dr. Fore's recognition by B2B: The Grand Strandadds to her already impressive list of accolades, including the City of Conway's Excellence in Education Award, the Order of the Palmetto, and the SC Association of Technical College Commissioners-Chief Executive Officer of the Year.
