Conway Medical Center with Novant Health (CMC) and Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) have entered a strategic partnership that will improve workforce development in healthcare. CMC will donate $1,050,000 to the HGTC Foundation to support the expansion of the HGTC Nursing and Health Sciences Institute. CMC will be the Premier Medical and Innovation Partner of HGTC’s Nursing and Health Sciences Institute.
HGTC plans to expand its healthcare education facility on the Grand Strand Campus with approximately 24,100 square feet by the end of 2025. The $15 million expansion of the Institute will serve HGTC's nursing and emergency medical technology students, as well as serve as an inter-professional training facility for 18 healthcare programs and community partners. The building will be central to empowering individuals, changing lives, and reshaping communities by impacting 30% of the HGTC student body, those enrolled in health sciences, while contributing to the local workforce each year by providing graduates who are highly skilled.

As part of the agreement, several key areas of the Institute will be named after CMC with Novant Health including the simulation center, skills lab, EMT/EMS lab and technology lab. The simulation center is a leading-edge training facility that will be utilized by HGTC students and allied health partners. The CMC Foundation will donate $50,000 of the total amount to create the CMC Foundation Student Lounge and Study area on the second floor of the building.
"We are so excited to partner with HGTC as we work together to train the healthcare workers of tomorrow. Our partnership and investment will help HGTC become the second largest technical college nursing program in the state. We have seen first-hand the high-quality education and training students receive at HGTC once they come to work at CMC. We believe our support of this new facility will continue to improve healthcare education in our community," said Brian Argo, CMC President and CEO.
