HGTC Students
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is pleased to announce the launch of two new healthcare programs to meet the ever-growing industry demands. The Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate program and the Electrocardiography Technician (EKG) Certificate program are set for the Summer 2024 semester.
The Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate program is designed to equip students with the essential skills required to excel in the role of a Clinical Medical Assistant. This comprehensive program will prepare graduates to function as high-quality, entry-level healthcare workers across various healthcare settings. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of practicing safely within their scope to promote, protect, and enhance the health of diverse communities.
The decision to introduce this program is supported by a thorough Needs Assessment previously conducted for the Patient Care Medical Assistant program. The findings of the assessment underscore the demand for trained professionals in this field, reinforcing the necessity and relevance of the Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate program.
The program will be offered at both the Grand Strand and Georgetown Campuses of HGTC. Courses will be delivered through a combination of face-to-face and online formats, providing flexibility for students.
The Electrocardiography Technician (EKG) Certificate program focuses on preparing students for the role of an EKG Technician. Graduates will possess the necessary skills to excel as entry-level healthcare workers in various settings, addressing the demand from healthcare facilities for certified EKG Technician candidates.
The demand for certified EKG Technicians has been articulated by local healthcare facilities, emphasizing the need to fill existing job vacancies in this critical area.
Similar to the Clinical Medical Assistant program, the EKG program will be offered at both the Grand Strand and Georgetown Campuses, featuring a blend of face-to-face and online courses.
Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, President of HGTC, expressed her enthusiasm for the introduction of the Clinical Medical Assistant and Electrocardiography Technician (EKG) Certificate programs, emphasizing the College's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.
In her statement, Dr. Fore remarked, "As we navigate the dynamic landscape of healthcare, it is essential for educational institutions to proactively respond to the demands of the industry. The Clinical Medical Assistant and Electrocardiography Technician programs are a testament to our dedication to providing students with relevant, high-quality education that aligns with the needs of our community and healthcare partners. These programs not only empower our students to excel in their careers but also contribute to addressing critical gaps in the healthcare workforce. I am confident that these initiatives will have a positive and lasting impact, and I am grateful for the ongoing support of the Area Commission in advancing our mission of educational excellence."
Dr. Fore's statement reflects HGTC's commitment to innovation, excellence, and its pivotal role in preparing students for successful careers in healthcare.
