For the third year in a row, Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students are the reigning champions of the 2022 Carolinas Turf Bowl Championship at the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association (CGCSA) Conference and Show held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Professors Charles Granger, George McCauley, and Ashley Wilkinson prepared their team to lead the pack and take the win. This year’s winning team consisted of four Golf & Sports Turf Management (GSTM) students including Railey Smith, Andrew Rich, Mike Millburn, and John Weeks.
“I could not be prouder of a team that bonded and worked hard to achieve the win. Each student on the team is employed by a local golf course, and a few are already in assistant superintendent positions. The win speaks volumes for academics and the importance of students being employed and supported by the golf course superintendents and turf managers while they are in school,” said Charles Granger, HGTC Chair and Professor of Golf and Sports Turf Management.
Other participating colleges in the 2022 Turf Bowl included Clemson University, North Carolina State University, and Central Piedmont Community College.
HGTC has captured the prize eight of the last 10 years.
“HGTC is proud of its students and proud of this win,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “We may be underestimated at times, but our students are truly the masters of the game and have an outstanding record to prove it.”
