HGTC Reveals 2021 Virtual Lecture Series for Addiction & Recovery
Series Features Six Celebrity Speakers Maintaining Recovery from Addictions.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce the 14th annual Addiction and Recovery Series schedule for 2021. Events will begin this month and feature a variety of speakers, including Dr. Kevin McCauley, Craig T. Nelson, Keith Somers, Carnie Wilson, Gary Stromberg, and Paul Williams.

The HGTC Addiction and Recovery Series was created in 2008 by HGTC physics and natural science professor Casey King to: increase public awareness of recovery in our community, educate the public on the biology and psychological basis that drives many addictions, demonstrate that addiction crosses all social and economic boundaries, reduce the stigma our culture assigns to those in recovery and to demonstrate that recovery from addictions is possible through a multitude of methods and can be free to those who want it.
The series is presented by Horry-Georgetown Technical College and sponsored by Grand Strand Health, Faces and Voices of Recovery Grand Strand, Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital, and Shoreline Behavioral Health Services.

DR. KEVIN MCCAULEY
Dr. Kevin McCauley is a Senior Fellow at The Meadows of Wickenburg, Arizona. Dr. McCauley
wrote and directed two films: “Memo to Self” about the concepts of recovery management,
and “Pleasure Unwoven” about the neuroscience of addiction which won the 2010 Michael
Q. Ford Award for Journalism from the National Association of Addiction Treatment
Providers. Kevin lives with his wife, Kristine, in Sedona, Arizona.

CRAIG T. NELSON
Craig T. Nelson is an Emmy Award–winning actor, writer, director, and producer. He
currently co-stars on CBS TV’s Young Sheldon. Craig T. Nelson has starred in 5 television
series; Parenthood, The District, Coach (for which he won an Emmy), Call to Glory
and Chicago Story. He has been extremely successful in Film, TV, and on Broadway.
He has starred in a long list of feature films, the most recent being Book Club and
Pixar’s The Incredibles 2. Other notable films include The Family Stone, Poltergeist
1 & 2, The Killing Fields and Osterman Weekend.

KEITH SOMERS
Keith A. Somers is a working actor, voice-over artist and powerful motivational speaker.
He has fulfilled roles as a principal actor in National Commercials and featured actor
roles in Box Office sensations. Following a multi-car collision, Keith was charged
and convicted of Second Degree Murder and given a life sentence in the State Prison.
After serving nearly two decades, Keith is determined to take every ounce of experience,
strength, hope, and give back to the world at large by paying it forward.

in recovery from various addictions will speak on what it was like, what happened,
and reveal what they do on a daily basis to maintain their recovery.

CARNIE WILSON
Carnie Wilson, daughter of legendary Beach Boy founder, Brian Wilson, has a varied
career as a singer, songwriter, TV host, actress, voice over artist, author and public
speaker. She currently is a regular co-host for CBS’S THE TALK. She has achieved unparalleled
first album success, selling ten million albums with three #1 hit singles. Carnie
is devoted to lecturing and speaking to women, men and younger individuals about self-empowerment
and recovery.

GARY STROMBERG
Gary has been clean and sober for over 37 years. He cofounded GIBSON & STROMBERG,
a large and influential music public relations firm of the sixties and seventies.
His company represented such luminaries as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Muhammad
Ali, Barbra Streisand, Boyz II Men, Neil Diamond, Ray Charles, The Doors, Earth, Wind
& Fire, Elton John, Three Dog Night, and Crosby, Stills, & Nash.

PAUL WILLIAMS
Singer, Songwriter, Actor, Author and Recovery Advocate, Paul Williams is one of the
most beloved and respected music creators in the world today. He’s a lyricist and
composer who has won an Oscar Award, three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards
and earned induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Some of his songs include
“We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days and Mondays” and “You and Me Against the World”
to “An Old Fashioned Love Song,” “Let Me Be the One” and “The Rainbow Connection”.
