HGTC Announces 2020 Lecture Series for Addiction and Recovery
Hit Reality Series Host, Dr. Drew, Headlines Series Event.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce the 13th annual Addiction and Recovery Series schedule for 2020. Events will begin on Thursday, February 20, and feature a variety of speakers, including Dr. Drew Pinsky of “Dr. Drew on Call” and hit reality series “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”.
All events are free and open to the public and will be held in the Burroughs & Chapin Auditorium on the HGTC Conway Campus. Presentations will begin at 7 p.m., and a complimentary dinner will be provided in Café 1100 at 6 p.m.
The HGTC Addiction and Recovery Series was created in 2008 by HGTC physics and natural science professor Casey King to: increase public awareness of recovery in our community, educate the public on the biology and psychological basis that drives many addictions, demonstrate that addiction crosses all social and economic boundaries, reduce the stigma our culture assigns to those in recovery and to demonstrate that recovery from addictions is possible through a multitude of methods and can be free to those who want it.
The series is presented by Horry-Georgetown Technical College and sponsored by Grand Strand Health, Faces and Voices of Recovery Grand Strand, Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital, and Shoreline Behavioral Health Services.

A panel of Horry-Georgetown Technical College students, faculty, and staff who are in recovery from various addictions will speak on what it was like, what happened, and reveal what they do on a daily basis to maintain their recovery.

BOB FORREST
Best known for his work as the straight shooting counselor on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”, Bob had a long journey in his struggle with addiction, visiting rehab facilities 24 times before finding sobriety in 1996. Tonight he will share his experiences in addiction and recovery as one of today's most important and talented addiction experts in America.

DREW PINSKY
Dr. Drew Pinsky is a practicing physician, Board Certified in Addiction Medicine, and well known for his hit reality series “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”. In 2010, Dr. Pinsky joined Headline News as the host of his own nightly show, “Dr. Drew on Call” and today continues to deliver his wisdom on a variety of programming.
