HGTC Names New Area Commission Members
Dr. Robert Farrar and Mr. Robert Hucks, II have been appointed to Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Area Commission, the nine-member governing board of the college. Dr. Farrar’s term expires July 1, 2020, and Mr. Hucks’ term expires July 1, 2021. Both members were appointed by Governor Henry McMaster.
“Dr. Farrar and Mr. Hucks are outstanding additions to HGTC’s Area Commission,” said Commission Chair Joe Branyon, Jr. “Their commitment to education and economic development in Horry and Georgetown counties will make a positive impact on the college.”
Dr. Farrar is a retired family and cosmetic dentist and has extensive roots in the
Horry County community. He is an adjunct professor and affiliate at the Medical University
of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine, and prior to this appointment, he
was an adjunct professor in HGTC’s dental hygiene program.
Dr. Farrar holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, the Grand Strand Dental Society, the Sertoma Club of Myrtle Beach, and the Classy Smile Board. He was a Rotarian for 15 years and has also served on the Conway Hospital Foundation Board, the Caduceus Society at the Conway Hospital, the Coastal Carolina University Athletic Foundation Board, and on various high school booster club boards.
Dr. Farrar lives in Myrtle Beach. He has a daughter, Lia, who is a teacher and lives in Carolina Forest with her husband, Josh; a son Enzo, who will graduate in May from the University of South Carolina; and a son Nico, who attends Wofford College.
“I am honored to have the privilege of serving on the HGTC Area Commission,” Farrar said. “My experience as an adjunct professor at the college has allowed me to witness first-hand the enthusiasm of students as they work towards their career goals. I am extremely impressed with the administration’s dedication to adapting to workforce needs and producing high quality programs and graduates.”
Mr. Hucks is the senior vice president, North Strand market executive and Conway market
executive for Coastal Carolina National Bank. A second-generation community banker,
Hucks has been in the banking industry for 20 years.
Mr. Hucks holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the South Carolina Bankers School at the University of South Carolina and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He is currently enrolled in the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania/Wharton School of Business where he will graduate this June.
He is president of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club, vice chairman of the Conway Medical Center Foundation board, and is a member of the Waccamaw Sertoma Club, the SCBA Economic Development Committee, the SCBA Bankers School Board, and the North Myrtle Beach Chamber Foundation board. He serves as a Deacon at Kingston Presbyterian Church where he is Chairman of the finance committee.
Hucks, an Horry County native, lives in Conway with his wife of 13 years, Christi. They have two sons, Riles and Winn.

We are fortunate to have HGTC located in our community due to the significant economic and educational impact it has on Horry County and the surrounding areas. I look forward to serving the college to the best of my ability and helping to continue their tradition of providing an excellent education to our residents and future workforce.”
