Horry-Georgetown Technical College Graduates Class of 2018
Veterans, non-traditional students among this year’s 1,300 graduates.
(CONWAY, SC) May 10, 2018 - More than 1,300 students received degrees, diplomas, or certificates from Horry-Georgetown Technical College this year, and over 600 of them marched at the school’s commencement ceremony yesterday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
HGTC’s president Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore presided over the ceremony and celebrated the students’ success and the hard work and dedication it took for them to get to this day.
“At some point in the not-so-distant past, you decided to improve your life by getting an education,” she said. “You persevered through countless study sessions, projects, exams, labs, internships and practicals. Many of you did this while working and raising a family. Tonight is a night when dreams are realized and your next journey begins.”
Twenty-eight military veterans marched in the commencement ceremony, and eight members of Horry County Fire Rescue graduated from HGTC’s paramedic program. Graduates’ ages ranged from 17 to 63, and many have already started their own businesses.
A number of awards and honors were given during the ceremony. Allison Lash received the Student Leadership and Service Award; Nursing Department Chair Ann Daniels received the Professor of the Year Award; and Assistant to the Vice President for Workforce Development and Education Patricia Kleber received the Staff Member of the Year Award.
Georgetown County Schools Superintendent Dr. H. Randall Dozier and Georgetown County Council Chairman Johnny Morant were named Patron Emeritus for their commitment to education and economic development in Georgetown County and for their support of the new Georgetown Center for Advanced Manufacturing.
This was HGTC’s fifty-second commencement.
