Chef Geoffrey Blount Named MBAHA Chef of the Year
International Culinary Institute instructor recognized for educating and serving the Grand Strand
(CONWAY, SC) Nov 29, 2018 - Chef Geoffrey Blount, an instructor at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach (ICI), was named Chef of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association at its 44th Annual Meeting and Hospitality Awards on November 15, 2018. Chef Blount was recognized for his service to his community and his dedication to his students.
“Teaching continuing education classes, entertaining our community on ‘Whip Up Your Weekend,’ and coaching a student team to a silver medal in an American Culinary Federation competition are just a few examples of Chef Blount’s commitment to culinary education in our community,” said Jeffrey Wisnieswki, MBAHA events and membership programs manager.
“Perhaps the most impressive of Chef Blount’s contributions to our local community this year was his leadership in preparing and delivering 15,000 meals over the course of 18 days for victims of Hurricane Florence and our first responders.”
Blount recently received a Jefferson Foundation Award for his hurricane relief efforts, and was both surprised and humbled by the MBAHA recognition.
“So many other chefs along the Grand Strand are deserving of this award,” Chef Blount said. “Everyone pitched in after Hurricane Florence to support our neighbors in need, and as a result, our culinary community is stronger and new relationships were formed.”
