HGTC to Offer Associate Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts
Program is the only degree of its kind in South Carolina
(Myrtle Beach) May 4, 2017 – The International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at Horry-Georgetown Technical College (ICI) will offer an Associate Degree in baking and pastry arts this fall, the first of its kind in South Carolina. The degree program will be led by Chef Geoffrey Blount, CEPC, WCMPC.
“Baking and pastry arts has made a huge comeback as people are becoming more aware of what is in the food they eat,” said Chef Blount. “Restaurants, hotels, country clubs and national retailers are now making their own baked goods and pastries in-house and are looking for talented people to help them. This new degree is a great opportunity for anyone looking to pursue their passion and launch a career.”
The baking and pastry degree will have an entrepreneur track that will cover everything from procurement to cooking techniques to business management. There will also be morning and afternoon track options, so students can enroll in the program while still maintaining a flexible schedule.
“We are thrilled to launch this new degree program at ICI, and to be the only school in South Carolina offering it,” said ICI Executive Director Chef Joseph Bonaparte. “Chef Blount is an expert in baking and pastry arts, and we are fortunate that he has brought this program to the Grand Strand.”
The baking and pastry arts degree officially launches this fall, and applications are now being accepted. To learn more about the program, visit www.hgtc.edu/culinary or contact Chef Blount at 843-839-7002 or Geoffrey.Blount@hgtc.edu.
