HGTC professor chosen to assist The Ryder Cup
Conway, SC — HGTC Golf & Turf Management Prof. Charles Granger is one of 30 golf colleagues worldwide to be selected to work with The 41st Ryder Cup this fall at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
The Ryder Cup, a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States, is one of the most compelling events in sports. PGA of America President Ted Bishop said, “Hazeltine National Golf Club, a wonderfully challenging layout, is well known to many of the finest players on both sides of the Atlantic.”
A selection letter from a course official said Granger was one of a few selected to “enrich the experience for my fellow Minnesotans.” Granger’s stature as one of the top professionals in turf management, as showcased through the breadth and depth of student internships and HGTC Sport Turf Team victories, contributed to his selection.
Dept. Chair Ashley Wilkinson said, “Professor Granger has dedicated his career to assisting others in the turfgrass profession. His inclusion in The Ryder Cup is a tremendous honor for our program and further validates his level of expertise. The knowledge and experience he continues to share with students will only grow after such an exhilarating event.”
The 2016 Ryder Cup will be held Sept. 27-Oct. 2.
