HGTC's Garner honored by Columbia College
April D. Garner, coordinator of the career center at Horry-Georgetown Technical College,
has been selected by Columbia College as the “2013-2014 Master of Education in Higher
Education Administration Graduate Student of the Year.” She was official recognized
recently during Columbia College summer commencement ceremonies. The “Higher Education
Administration Graduate Student of the Year” is bestowed upon the student who has
demonstrated excellence in graduate studies and is distinguished among peers and faculty
in the Higher Education Administration program.
Garner was chosen by the Columbia College faculty and received the award based upon her academic excellence and research skills. She finished the program with a 4.0 GPA and co-authored a research paper on college alumni perceptions of academic and workforce readiness. Garner serves in various leadership roles with local and state community and professional organizations, including the South Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers (SCACE) as the association’s president-elect.
