HGTC Selects Competitors for USA Today Academic Team
Conway (Jan. 14)- Two students from Horry-Georgetown Technical College have been selected to compete at the state level for a chance to compete nationally in USA TODAY’s All-USA Community College Academic Team. The academic team recognizes exceptional students at the nation’s community colleges. Judges consider grades, academic rigor, growth and how well the students use their education to benefit their schools and communities. The program is administered by Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
Lesley Bement (top), formerly a student loan officer at a bank, has earned her certificate in Medical Coding and Billing, and expects to complete her Associate Degree in Applied Science in General Technology at HGTC in August. Her mother’s struggle with breast cancer inspired Ms. Bement to change career goals. She hopes to become a cancer tumor registrar.
Shannon Dudasik (bottom) returned to college after having two children. She earned an Associate in Arts degree, and was selected to appear in HGTC’s marketing campaign, “My College, My Way.” She is enrolled at Coastal Carolina University to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
The competition will be held March 18, in Columbia.
