Neyle Wilson, President of Horry-Georgetown Technical College accepts a check from Heidi Vukov, owner of Croissants
This comes from the proceeds of a wine tasting and art show held at Croissants for
the David L. Brittain Legacy Fund for the Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at HGTC. This fun
d is in support of the construction of a new facility to house the college’s Culinary
Arts program. This new learning center will provide a state of the art bakery/patisserie
laboratory, a nutrition laboratory, a mixology laboratory, production and training
kitchens, and a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes to the general public. It
will also serve as a staging area for guest chefs to teach and entertain students
and the public. A culinary gift shop and greenhouse are also planned for instructional
use.
“We are very honored by the commitment Ms. Vukov and other food industry professionals in this area have shown on behalf of the new facility and we are looking forward to further partnerships in support of this initiative. The support local food industry leaders such as Mrs. Vukov are imperative in allowing the college to elevate our program and expand and enhance our programs and offerings in the fields of culinary arts, nutrition, and food service and distribution,” said HGTC President Neyle Wilson.
Ms. Vukov stated, “I would also like to acknowledge our fantastic intern from Coastal Carolina, Katie Laviola, who has took on this event as her senior project. From start to finish, she was able to make this an amazing experience for our community and also a wonderful gift to HGTC. She has worked very hard, and I am truly proud of the event she put together.”
Tom Maeser, President & CEO of the HGTC Foundation praised Croissant’s Bistro, “It is wonderful to have the support of the culinary industry in HGTC’s efforts to build the new state-of-the –art Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach on the Grand Strand campus. We are in the process of raising $3,000,000 to cover infrastructure costs, and with the help of businesses like Croissant’s Bistro, we are confident that we will get the funds necessary to complete the project” stated Maeser.
A free-standing, non-profit organization chartered by the State of South Carolina on November 18, 1978, the purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds to support the programs, services, and activities of Horry-Georgetown Technical College, its students and employees, and to create and strengthen positive relations between the College and the community.
The Foundation is recognized by the South Carolina Tax Commission and the Internal Revenue Service as a tax exempt, non-profit organization with 501(c)( 3) status and may act as an eligible grantee when the College is ineligible to do so. Foundation funds are managed by Directors for the benefit of the growth and development of the College and are dispensed for use in meeting college goals and objectives, in addition to the resources allocated by established funding sources.
