Myrtle Beach, S.C – Supporters gathered at the Thomas C. Maeser Auditorium on the Myrtle Beach campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College as the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation presented a $300,328.00 check to the Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC).

“The grant was provided to support the Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Community Dental Clinic Expansion,” said Harvey Galloway, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Executive Director. “The expansion is expected to increase the patient capacity at the clinic and to reduce the number of emergency room visits by patients with dental concerns.”

Galloway said the event today was part of a series the Foundation is hosting around the state to present its grants and honor the recipients in front of the community and business leaders. Since the Foundation was established in 2003, it has allocated more than $41 million in South Carolina to address issues such as childhood health, community health, mental health, obesity, diabetes, nursing, health research, and the increasing need for free medical clinics.

"We are grateful to receive this critical funding from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation that will support the continued development of Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Dental Program,” said Dr. Phillip Render, Horry-Georgetown Technical College Dean. Render explained, “through these efforts we are able to expand and improve our patient delivery and access to dental care by our clinic that cares for many underserved residents throughout Horry and Georgetown Counties.”
