Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) proudly announces the success of its students at the Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition held at Trident Technical College in North Charleston, South Carolina. Among a competitive field of ten collegiate institutions, HGTC students showcased their expertise in cybersecurity, securing an impressive 3rd place award.

The competition, which took place in April, saw HGTC students David Helm, Sean Martin, Xander Sampson, Ryan Gault, Anthony Critelli, and Jordan Wyels, under the leadership of Professor Brian Tessenear and Professor Matthew Servedio, rise to the challenge with distinction.

In a simulated scenario where teams defended a medical facility from cyber threats, the HGTC team demonstrated remarkable skill, determination, and teamwork. Their efforts ensured the security of the facility's systems, preventing hackers from compromising data and stealing funds. As a testament to their success, HGTC emerged as the highest-ranking technical college in the competition, earning the prestigious Tech School Challenge Cup.

The HGTC team's achievement underscores the college's commitment to excellence in computer technology education and its dedication to preparing students for success in rapidly evolving fields such as cybersecurity.

Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President remarked, "The success of our students at the Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition is a demonstration to the exceptional talent and dedication within our institution. David, Sean, Xander, Ryan, Anthony, and Jordan, along with their mentors, have demonstrated the highest standards of excellence in cybersecurity. Their achievement reflects the commitment of HGTC to providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape."
